FRED DE JONG STEPS ASIDE AS FIRST TEAM COACH TO FOCUS ON DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL ROLE

After Ellerslie AFC’s 2-2 draw with Mt Albert Ponsonby last Friday night, Ellerslie AFC’s Head Coach Fred de Jong confirmed to the playing group that he was stepping aside from the role to put his time and efforts into his role as Director of Football.

66340629_911648165851051_8598626128338354176_nReplacing de Jong as the Men’s First Team coach for the rest of the 2020 season will be Munith Naidu who has previously held roles at Fencibles and Bucklands Beach as a Director of Football.

Terry Torrens, Kris Pinnock, Seb Bouvier, Aaron Collin and Tim Adams will all stay on with the Men’s NRFL First Team and Reserves as Munith looks to get results for the First Team back on track.

With a large and almost injury free squad to choose from for Naidu he will be looking for a positive start to his tenure this weekend as the Men’s First Team take on Manurewa at home on Saturday at 3pm.

Fred de Jong took over the men’s First Team with four games to play in the 2017 season, with his first away game ironically being a 2-2 draw with Mt Albert Ponsonby at Anderson Park.  All told Fred was in charge for 56 games for the Men’s First Team with highlights being the 1-0 win over Oratia in the final game of the 2017 season when that solitary goal from Callum Waters was enough to keep us in NRFL Div 1 for 2018.

At the end of the 2018 season Ellerslie racked up an 8-2 win over Tauranga City which was the biggest win of Fred’s time in charge of “The Ponies”.

We thank Fred for his time in charge of the team and we look forward to seeing him developing the next batch of First Team stars with his work as Director of Football with the Junior and Youth players.
